In a very important game between two newly promoted teams, Trat FC managed to get the points against PTT Rayong, which could prove to be vital come the end of the season. The first east coast derby between these two clubs in the top flight saw Trat FC get a 3-2 away win to rivals PTT Rayong.
The game started at a ferocious pace with Trat FC taking the league in the 10th minute. Rayong keeper Peerapong Ruenin gifted Trat FC with the perfect opportunity to take the lead when his poor drop kick was intercepted by Trat FC. The ball the eventually found its way to the Nigerian winger Adefolarin Durosinmi who then cut inside and fired his left footed shot into the top corner.
In the 16th minute PTT Rayong FC equalised from a corner. Saharat Kanyaroj crossed in a dangerous ball which was met by by Ariel Rodríguez, after he beat Baihakki Khaizan to the ball. The Costa Rican striker then headed the ball into the top corner pass keeper Todsaporn Sri-reung.
Trat FC retook the lead in the 31st minute when Bireme Diouf found himself with ball in space on the left hand side. He then crossed the ball into the box for Lonsana Doumbouya, who met the ball with a glancing header into the top corner. PTT Rayong FC would have been disappointed with the efforts of centre back Suttinan Phuk-hom who was unable to stick tight to the Guinean front man and failed to challenge him in the air.
Two minutes later a disastrous piece of miscommunication by the Rayong defence gifted Trat FC a third goal and the win. As the ball was played forward towards the PTT Rayong box, left back Koravit Namwiset went to header the ball back to keeper Peerapong Ruenin. However Peerapong had already left his position and was already charging to the ball. This meant that the ball fell kindly to striker Chenrop Samphaodi who only had to tap the ball in.
PTT Rayong pulled one back in the 35th minute, once again through Ariel Rodríguez. Rodríguez received the ball 30 yards out, took one touch to take the ball past Polawat Wangkahart before smashing the ball into the top corner. The goal once again proves why Ariel Rodríguez is one of the best strikers in the league.
Even though all the goals came in the first half, PTT Rayong had many chances to equalise in the second. Ariel Rodríguez had numerous chances however was unable to convert, while substitute Jay Emmanuel-Thomas had a long drive well saved by Todsaporn Sri-reung.
Trat FC have settled on a well run team which is spearheaded by Lonsana Doumbouya who is currently one of the top scorers in the league. While defensive mistakes have cost PTT Rayong FC in this game. All three conceded goals can be pinpointed to individual mistakes. However the goal threat of Ariel Rodríguez will always ensure that PTT Rayong will score goals.
