Chonburi FC Vs Sukhothai FC

2019 Thai League Week 22: Chonburi FC Vs Sukhothai FC

Mid-table Chonburi FC hosted Sukhothai FC in an entertaining game during week 22. Chonburi FC who have had a busy transfer and will hope that their new signings boost them for Asian Champions League contention. While Sukhothai FC are looking over their shoulders as they are in a perilous position of just being above the relegation zone. Both clubs managed to get a share of the spoils in an entertaining game which ended 2-2.

Chonburi FC had the better start and took the lead in the 13th minute. The goal started from Kroekrit Thaweekarn who played a long ball forward from deep. The ball appeared to go over everyones head however as it bounced, Sukhothai defender Joshua Grommen hesitated allowing Caion to get the ball and run through. As he reached the keeper, he stayed calm and slotted it into the bottom corner.

From this point Sukhothai FC began increasing their attack, with Irvin Herrera, John Baggio, and Iain Ramsay having decent chances but could not convert. However they were able to equalise in the 30th minute when they won possession in a dangerous position after a mix up from Chonburi FC duo Kroekrit Thaweekarn and Thanaset Sujarit. John Baggio then played a through-ball to Irvin Herrera who took the ball past the keeper, then played the ball into the centre for Kabfah Boonmatoon to finish in the top corner. On second viewing it was a very good finish as Kabfah put the ball into the only possible position as Chonburi FC had many men covering on the line.

In the second half Sukhothai FC had the better start and took the lead in the 57th minute. A dangerous ball was played forward into the Chonburi box, Kritsada Kaman allowed the ball to bounce past him where Irvin Herrera was able to score.

A few minutes later Chonburi FC equalised from a good cross from Mongkol Namnuad which was met by towering striker Ángel Guirado. Guirado has been on form since his move from Negeri Sembilan FA, however he was lucky to have scored as keeper Kittikun Jamsuwan who got a hand on the ball and should have done better.

All in all it was a very entertaining game from both these sides. Chonburi FC would have been disappointed that they didn’t get maximum points to close down the leading clubs while the point does very little for Sukhothai FC who currently have the same points as 14th place team PT Prachuap FC but only above the relegation zone due to goal difference.
