2019 Thai League Week 23: Bangkok United Vs Chainat Hornbill

Title chasing Bangkok United hosted relegation threatened Chainat Hornbill in week 23 of the Thai League. Bangkok United have seen their stuttering form of three draws and a loss in their last four games mean that they have slightly dropped off the pace with the league front runners, while Chainat Hornbill continue to sit in the relegation zone.

Bangkok United started off the game much brighter, and should off taken the lead in the 13th minute, however Brazilian forward Vander Luiz blasted over from close range. Vander Luiz then went on to hit the cross bar with a powerful shot ten minutes later. This these continued missed chances it was not looking like a good night for the Brazilian.

The best chance for Chainat Hornbill minutes before half time. The ball was played into the Bangkok United box, however Aussie international Eli Babalj scuffed his shot wide. This these continued missed opportunities the match entered half time goalless.

It was Bangkok United who came out of half time with more purpose and took the lead within a few minutes. Midfielder Alexander Sieghart took advantage of a rare start and fired a long range effort off the post. It was Bangkok United playmaker Sanrawat Dechmitr who reacted quickest to tap in the rebound.

In the 64th minute Vander Luiz finally made amends for his earlier missed opportunities to double Bangkok United’s lead and strengthen their hold on the game. The ball was played in from the right hand side, and as Vander Luiz received it on the edge of the box, he took a touch to compose himself before firing calmly into the bottom corner.

Chainat Hornbill continued to offer very little going forward, and only threatened to score once in the 70th minute. As the ball was played into Chatmongkol Thongkiri, he took a touch before firing a shot towards the top corner which required a very good save from Bangkok United keeper Michael Falkesgaard.

Apart from that Chainat Hornbill did not create much more and deservedly lost this game. They continue to sit in the bottom three and would need to improve if they wish to move up the table. With the win Bangkok United can continue to look above them as they try and catch Buriram United who currently sit at the top of the table.
