Bangkok United Vs Nakhorn Ratchasima

2019 Thai League Week 5: Bangkok United Draw With Nakhorn Ratchasima

In week 5 of the 2019 Thai League Bangkok United managed to hold onto a 1-1 draw away to a very dynamic Nakhorn Ratchasima FC as both sides contributed to an entertaining game.

This was a game of many chances with the first falling to Bangkok United in the 8th minute. The visitors had a freak kick just on the edge of the Nakhorn Ratchasima  box. Tristan Do ran over the ball feigning a shot allowing for Jakkapan Pornsai to curl the ball around the wall which require a good save from Samuel Cunningham.

In the 36th minute it was Nakhorn Ratchasima FC turn to have a free-kick. Leandro Assumpção lined up a shot but his poor effort ricocheted off the the wall and fell to Methee Thaweekulkarn. He dropped the shoulder to take it passed a defender before firing an unstoppable 30 yard shot into the top corner. Bangkok United keeper Michael Falkesgaard could do little to stop this early contender for goal of the season.

Nakhorn Ratchasima FC should have doubled their lead shortly after. Brazilian striker Leandro Assumpção played the ball out wide to Pralong Sawandee before continuing his run into the box. Pralong Sawandee then proceeded to cross the ball back Leandro Assumpção who had found space on in the box. Assumpção attempted to volley the ball first time but was unable to get enough on the ball to trouble Falkesgaard. replays showed that Assumpção had enough time to take a touch before shooting.

In the 42nd minuted there was an opportunity for Leandro Assumpção to make up his earlier miss from the penalty spot. Amadou Ouattara reacted quickest to a loose ball in the Bangkok United box. The winger was then clumsily brought down by Thossawat Limwannasathian for the penalty. Leandro Assumpção stepped up and shot the ball down the middle. Falkesgaard dived to his left but managed to leave his arm behind and somehow palm the penalty away.

A distraught Leandro Assumpção required consoling from team mates at half time. If the Brazilian had his shooting boots on then the Korat club could have gone into the break three goals up.

In the second half Bangkok United were able to equalise shortly after the restart. Tristan Do played the ball to midfielder Anon Amornlerdsak. The youngster was able to swivel past goalscorer Methee Thaweekulkarn before firing his own wonder goal into the top corner.

Nakhon Ratchasima increased the pressure after conceding the equaliser. In the 62nd minute a powerful Amadou Ouattara effort which was heading into the top corner required a magnificent save from Falkesgaard.

While minutes later it was Bangkok United’s turn to try and take the lead. A well worked team move resulted in Peerapat Notchaiya one on one with the onrushing keeper. Peerapat’s toe poked effort came off the keeper before landing at the feet of Anon Amornlerdsak. With no keeper, Anon’s effort what somehow deflected away from the goal line by left back Pralong Sawandee.

In the dying minutes of the game Methee Thaweekulkarn received the ball 30 yards out on the half volley. With a chance to win the game Methee provided another powerful shot which crashed off the bar much to the fans despair.

As the game was concluded Nakhorn Ratchasima FC will be happy with their performance even if they feel like they deserved the win. Bangkok United will be thankful Michael Falkesgaard whose multiple saves kept the side in the game. Though they will be dissapointed with the reult as they have dropped further behind Thai League rivals Buriram United as they beat Samut Prakan City 3-2.
