A few seasons ago if you were to say that Port FC were playing away to Muangthong United, it would be safe to presume that the away side were the ones fighting for relegation and the home team were going for the title. However, things have now changed as Port FC are currently leading the Thai League.
With momentum on their side Port FC took the lead early in the second half. Bodin Phala received the ball approximately 30 yards out. Defender Suphanan Bureerat appeared reluctant to close him down, allowing the winger to dribble towards goal. Bodin Phala then released a ferocious shot past the keeper to give Port FC the lead.
Moments later Muangthong striker Teerasil Dangda found himself one on one with the keeper. The Thai legend showed a lack in conviction trying to dink the ball over the keeper. Port keeper Watchara Buathong was able to read the situation and remained big enough to deflect the effort away.
In the 58th minute Port FC doubled their lead for a very well worked move. Playmaker Pakorn Prempak threaded through a delightful through ball into the box that spilt the Muangthong defence if half. With only the keeper to beat Sumanya Purisai passed the ball across the goal for Nitipong Selanon to tap into an open goal.
With both sides looking likely to score, it was Muangthong United who were able to pull one back. Substitute Charyl Chappuis played the ball into the channel for Herberty who was then able to use the outside of his foot to dink the ball into the box for Weerawut Kayem to tap in.
The win for Port FC leaves them at the top of the Thai League while the result confounds Muangthong to the bottom of the table.
