With little over a week to go before the start of the 2020 Thai League season, Bangkok United have surprisingly announced the signing of Brazilian forward Brenner Marlos. The 25 year old joins from Brazilian giants Sport Club Internacional having spent last season on loan at Avaí FC in the Brazilian Serie B playing 14 games and scoring 2 goals.
The move comes as a surprise to many fans due to the closeness to the Thai League season opener. In addition many experts had viewed Bangkok United as already having a settled squad ahead of the season. Their foreign player quota had already bean taken up by established Thai League players in Everton, Vander Luiz and Nelson Bonilla. The move somewhat puts the position of the latter into question as it is most likely Bonilla who will have to make way due to the similar position that he and Brenner Marlos play in. In addition Brazilian duo Vander Luiz and Everton are already established in other areas of the field, and allowing them to leave would see Bangkok United unlikely to find replacements of the same calibre before the season starts.
There had been murmurs that Nelson Bonilla could possibly be injured which would require Bangkok United to bring in Brenner Marlos. However we will have to see what the future holds for the El Salvador international.
