Magno Cruz has decided to sign for Qatari side Umm Salal SC ahead of joining Thai League side Muangthong United at the last minute.
The 31 year old midfielder has joined Umm Salal SC on a reported 6 month contract as the Qatari side hope to avoid relegation after sitting bottom of the league on 5 points after 11 games.
Magno Cruz had been available as a free agent after his contract with Korean club Jeju United FC expired having failed to help them avoid relegation in 2019. The Brazilian had spent three seasons with the club having amassed over a 100 league appearances scoring 29 goals and registering 8 assists.
The move comes as a shock to Muangthong United staff and fans. There were wide media reports that Magno Cruz had been on the verge of signing with the Thai club, and there were rumours of an upcoming press conference to announce the signing. This comes as a blow to the plans of coach Alexandre Gama who has publicly stated his desire to sign a creative midfielder.
Muangthong United have had a poor transfer window so far allowing star player Heberty to join rivals Port FC on loan while also seeing midfielder Bruno Gallo leave. With reports of Teerasil Dangda also potentially leaving for Japan, this leaves the Muangthong United squad looking rather depleted, particularly in attack.
