Buriram United have announced the signing of ex-Arsenal youth player Nacer Barazite. The 29 year old midfielder joins after having recently left Al Jazira Club who play in the UAE Pro League.
Last season Nacer Barazite made 22 appearances for the club scoring 4 goals whilst helping the club finish 5th in the league. After leaving the Arsenal as a fresh faced 21 year old, Nacer Barazite went on to have a successful season in Austria with FK Austria Wien scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances. This earned him a big money move to Ligue 1 with AS Monaco FC. After not making an impact in the French league, Barazite had spells with FC Utrecht and Yeni Malatyaspor before ending up in the UAE.
It will be interesting how long Nacer Barazite manages to last in the Thai League. All previous ex-Arsenal youths have had noticeable short stays in Thailand. In 2014 one time England international Jay Bothroyd spent a season with Muangthong United where he played 16 games scoring 6 goals. Bothroyd then decided to pack his bags and head to pastures new, resurrecting his career in the J-League where he is still at to this day.
During the same time period Jay Simpson spent a year with Buriram United. However poor form and the inability to adapt to the culture meant that Simpson soon headed back to the UK. And most recently Jay Emmanuel-Thomas last less that half a season at PTT Rayong before packing it in to head back to the UK. The three Jay’s all lasted less than a year.
Interestingly the signing of Nacer Barazite has meant that Buriram United have had to part ways with Brazilian forward Pedro Júnior. With the departure of Modibo Maïga and injury issues of Javier Patiñ, Pedro Júnior has rather successfully single handedly led the line for Buriram, only being supported by the youthful trio of Supachai Jaided, Supachok Sarachat and Suphanat Mueanta. So it was quite a surprise to see Pedro Júnior leave.
