Muangthong United have surprisingly announced the signing of Uzbekistan international midfielder Sardor Mirzaev on deadline day at an event to promote the upcoming season.
The 28 year old joins from PFC Lokomotiv Tashkent who having spent five years at the club and most recently helping them finish runners up in last seasons Uzbekistan Super League.
Muangthong United coach Alexandre Gama has previously mentioned to the media that he was looking to add a player that can provide creativity from midfield while acting as a box to box midfielder. Gama had also added that he would like for the midfield to contribute with more goals and act as a number 10 in the team. Sardor Mirzaev appears to match this criteria and is looking like an astute acquisition.
This move has had a knock on effect on Aussie-Filipino midfielder Jesse Curran who has recently signed from Dundee FC in Scotland. As Jesse has not an an international cap for the Philippines yet he cannot be classed as an ASEAN player. Therefore with the incoming Sardor Mirzaev taking the Asian player spot, Jesse Curran has been sent out on loan to Udon Thani FC for the upcoming Thai League 2 season. The loan move makes sense as Udon Thani FC are currently acting as a sort of ‘B’ team for Muangthong United loaning in around 21 players from the club for the upcoming season.
