Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC hosted Muangthong United at the 80th Birthday Stadium in a must win game for the visitors. Muangthong United are coming off a series of poor performances in recent games with back to back losses to Ratchaburi and Chaiant Hornbill with manager Pairoj Borwonwatanadilok resigning in between.
Nakhon Ratchasima started off the game brightly showing off their fast and fluid attack. In the 8th minute Amadou Ouattara on the right hand side. He then proceeded to cut inside and drove a powerful shot into the bottom corner which was clawed away by Đặng Văn Lâm. Though the effort was well saved it was a sign of things to come.
Muangthong United managed to hold until the 34th minute were a number of defensive errors let to them conceding. Nakhon Ratchasima FC striker Bernard Doumbia received the ball on the edge of the box. The Muangthong held off from closing the striker down allowing Doumbia a free shot. Đặng Văn Lâm was able to save another effort, however the Vietnamese keeper could not direct the ball away from goal with the ball bouncing into the six yard box. Leandro Assumpção was able to react before Suphanan Bureerat, beating the Muangthong defender to the ball to tap in the first goal of the game.
Five minutes later Nakhon Ratchasima doubled their lead through a counter attack. Bernard Doumbia once again played the role of provider, dribbling the ball on the left. As he reached the edge of the box he laid the ball of into the box for Chitchanok Xaysensourinthone. The 24 year old Thai striker took a touch pass Oh Ban-suk before firing the ball into the roof of the net.
In the 66th minute Nakhon Ratchasima were once again counter attacking with pace. Amadou Ouattara played the ball to Bernard Doumbia around 30 yards from goal. The striker then cut in avoiding a few challenges before unleashing a long distance drive into the bottom corner giving Nakhon Ratchasima FC a 3-0 lead and pretty much putting the game to bed.
With things already looking dire for Muangthong United, their day went from bad to worse in the 86th minute. Defender Adisorn Promrak, who had been run ragged all game lunged late on ex-teammate Leandro Assumpção earning himself a second yellow card.
Down to ten men, Muangthong United somehow rallied together for a conciliation goal. Brazilian Heberty provided a chipped through-ball to Adisak Kraisorn who took a good shot to score his goal and giving the final score 3-1.
Overall, this was yet another poor performance for Muangthong United. Their defence were unable to handle to the vibrant and directness of attacking trio Leandro Assumpção, Bernard Doumbia, and Amadou Ouattara. Muangthong appear to be in free fall losing their third consecutive game culminating with the departure of manager Pairoj Borwonwatanadilok. The Thai football giants are now in the bottom three and could face a season of fighting off relegation.
