Muangthong United have seen their survival hopes boosted with a 2-0 home win over Sukhothai FC.
The result was the more impressive as Muangthong United have gone 8 games without a win while Sukhothai FC have only lost once all season. Another important statistic is that prior to the game, Muangthong United were the only club in the league that has failed to score 10 or more goals during the entire season.
Muangthong had the games first chance which came in the 13th minute. The increasingly impressive Korrawit Tasa was able to find space for Heberty with a back heel. The Brazilian then preceded to shoot to the left of the goal. Sukothai keeper Kittikun Jamsuwan was equal to the shot and was able to parry the effort away from goal.
After a few close efforts from Suphanan Bureerat and Sarach Yooyen, it was left up to club captain Teerasil Dangda to put Muangthong into the lead. In the 43rd minute defender Suporn Peenagatapho crossed the ball from the left, which was met by Teerasil Dangda who beat Jung Myung-oh to the ball to score.
Muangthong doubled their lead in the 57th minute when a long ball was played into the Sukothai FC box. As the ball bounced Heberty fired a powerful half volley through the keepers legs and into the goal.
This could prove to be a very important win for Muangthong United, as they were begging to be set adrift at the bottom of the table. For Sukhothai FC, even though they are currently sitting in mid-table they will be looking over their shoulders as they are only 3 points above the relegation zone.
