Struggling Muangthong United hosted an in-form Trat FC side at the SCG Stadium in a key game for both sides. Muangthong United are desperately looking for points as they look to get out of the relegation zone, while Trat FC are comfortably in 5th position. The Muangthong United players were looking to impress new coach Alexandre Gama who had come in to guide the club away from the relegation zone.
Alexandre Gama would not have been disappointed as from the get-go Muangthong dominated playing a tempo game and creating numerous chances. They were rewarded for their efforts as in the 39th minute they took the lead. Right back Suphanan Bureerat played a delightful diagonal cross field ball to Mario Gjurovski who had beaten the offside trap. As Gjurovski ran into the box he chipped the ball across goal, past Todsaporn Sri-reung for Heberty to head it into an open goal.
Things went from bad to worse for Trat FC as just seconds before half time they went down to 10 men when midfielder Kriangkrai Pimrat received a second booking for an elbow on Mario Gjurovski.
Muanthong United continued their flowing football in the second half and doubled their lead on the 72nd minute. Trat FC midfielder Pichit Jaibun loses the ball on the edge of his own box to Adisak Kraisorn after a high press from Muangthong. Adisak then showed quick feet to nutmeg Chalermsuk Kaewsuktae and pass the ball to Sanukran Thinjom who then proceeded o fire a low shot past the keeper.
Muanthong United then completed their rout with a third goal in the 94th minute. As Muanghtong United hit Trat FC on the counter attack Heberty played a through ball to Sanukran Thinjom who then let the ball run on through to Aung Thu. The Myanmar international then curl his effort over the keeper and into the goal sealing a well deserved win for Muangthong.
Alexandre Gama would have been pleased with the performance of his new side in particular that of Mario Gjurovski who he reinstated to the starting eleven. Mario made himself busy throughout the first half and will look to build on this performance in future games. While for Trat FC it was a disappointing performance after a run of good form. Star striker Lonsana Doumbouya was keptsubdued all night and the game was pretty much put to bed when Kriangkrai Pimrat was sent off.
After this game Muangthong United move out of the relegation zone leapfrogging three teams. However Suphanburi FC and Chainat Hornbill FC still have a game in hand. Trat FC leave this game still sitting in a respectable 5th position.
