Muangthong United hosted fellow mid-table contenders Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC as part of game-week 20 in the Thai League. A constantly improving into the season and manage to get a 2-1 win over Ratchaburi.
Muangthong United were gifted an early lead in the 2nd minute when Ratchaburi defender Pawee Tanthatemee gave the ball away with a careless pass in a dangerous area. Heberty was able to intercept and run the ball 20 yards into the box unopposed before placing the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.
In the second half these got heated when Ratchaburi winger Steeven Langil did not take kindly to a late challenge from Saringkan Promsupa. Langil then proceeded to grab Saringkan by the collar before pushing him to the ground. This earned Steeven Langil a second booking and a sending off, which was the last thing his side needed when trailing Muangthong away from home.
Muangthong United were able to double their lead and pretty much put the game to bed in the 80th minute. Heberty was able to claim another poor clearance unchallenged. The Brazilian then played the ball through to Myanmar international Aung Thu as the player ran into the box. Aung Thu then proceeded to cut inside and curled a great effort into the top corner.
Ang Thu was also unlucky not to win a penalty a few moments laters after taking the ball past two players before being brought down in the box. It has been noticeable how Aung Thu’s performance has considerably picked up after Alexandre Gama became manager.
Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC managed to get a consolation goal in the 86th minute, to everyone’s surprise when the Muangthong United defence were caught asleep. Jakkapan Pornsai played in a decent in-swinging free-kick and Yoo Jun-soo was able to surprisingly tap in unchalleneged to score his second goal in as many weeks.
Overall it was a good display from Muangthong United who are improving with every week. The players that have been brought in have improved the team but it is the rejuvenation of Heberty and Ang Thu which have been most noticeable. Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC did not perform at their best, which was worsened by the stupid sending off of key man Steeven Langil. Both these sides remain in mid-table.
