Thailand have recorded their first win of the 2019 AFC Asia Cup campaign by beating Bahrain 1-0 thanks to a second half Chanathip Songkrasin goal.
Bahrain started the game of putting pressure on Thailand through possession and attempts on goal. However this early pressure never materialised into a goal. As the game progressed Thailand grew in confidence and Chanathip broke the deadlock in the 58th minute after Tristan Do’s cross was deflected into his path by Bahrain defender Ahmed Ali Juma.
This surprising results comes after an embarrassing 4-1 first game loss to India. Straight after the game manager Milovan Rajevac was relieved of his duties and the Thai national team were left in turmoil. However this win, Thailand still have a chance to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
Meanwhile elsewhere in Group A United Arab Emirates beat India 2-0. After the second round of games the United Arab Emirates are in first place with 4 points, while India and Thailand are joint second with 3 points, and Bahrain in last position with 1 point.
