Buriram United suffered a second loss in the AFC Champions League group stages after playing Beijing Guoan FC at the Chang Arena. A Cédric Bakambu hat-trick was enough for the Chinese Super League club to get a comfortable win against the Thai champions.
Buriram United manage to concede in the 2nd minute of the game when left back Li Lei was able to drive a low cross into the box. Ex La Liga striker Cédric Bakambu was able to get in front of his marker and flick the ball in at the front post.
Beijing Guoan doubled their lead in the 29th minute from a well worked move. Spaniard Jonathan Viera played a defence splitting pass Renato Augusto on the left hand side. The Brazilian midfielder was able to play a low ball into the box similar to the first goal. Cédric Bakambu was once again able to get in-front of his marker to side foot in for his second of the game.
Cédric Bakambu completed his hat-trick in the 53rd minute and secured the win for Beijing Guoan FC. The ball was played out wide to a Chinese player who took the ball down and struck the ball at goal. Though the effort was tamely hit Buriram keeper Siwarak Tedsungnoen managed to spill the effort into the path of Bakambu. For the third time in the game the DR Congo international was able to react before Andrés Túñez to tap in.
There was a glimmer of hope for Buriram United in the 80th minute when they were able to pull a goal back. Vietnamese midfielder Lương Xuân Trường was able to play the ball through to Suphanat Mueanta who showed composure to put the ball through the keepers legs. The 16 year old has so far impressed this season and looked to be leading the Buriram resurgence back into the game.
Unfortunately for Buriram United, they were unable to build on the impressive win on Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the previous game leaving the Thai side bottom of Group G in the AFC Champions League. Their next Champions League game will come after the Songkran break against Beijing Guoan at the Workers’ Stadium. It will be a must win game for Buriram United if they hope to progress to the knockout rounds.
