Former Trat FC striker Lonsana Doumbouya has officially been unveiled as a new signing for Chinese League One side Meizhou Hakka FC.
This comes after an exceptional season for Doumbouya, where the French born Guinea striker scored an impressive 20 goals in 28 games finishing as top scorer in the Thai League. His efforts last season helped Trat FC finish in a very respectable 10th position.
The previous year the striker scored 16 goals in 26 games forming a deadley partnership with Brazilian striker Jonatan Reis at PT Prachuap FC helping the club finish in an impressive 6th in the 2018 Thai League season after signing from Austria. The continued success that Lonsana Doumbouya has experienced in Thailand has earned admiring eyes from some of Asia’s top leagues.
This has lead to Doumbouya turining down a new contract at Trat FC and signing for Meizhou Hakka FC. The Chinese club appear to be pushing for promotion as they have also bolstered their attacking options with Brazilian Dorielton and the Nigerian Chisom Egbuchulam and now Doumbouya.
Doumbouya’s move to China highlights a growing trend in recent seasons of Thailand’s best attacking players using the league as a stepping stone to earn a move to more lucrative league’s in Asia. Examples of this has been Diogo’s move to Malaysia and Lukian’s move to Japan. This trend is expected to continue in the forthcoming seasons.
